GOLF TRAVELLERS WIN BIG ON RORY!
PRESS RELEASE
Rory McIlroy’s spell-binding playoff victory at the US Masters was also a $76,500 windfall for club golfers who booked a golf trip with Go Golfing.
In the days leading up to the Masters, Go Golfing, Australia’s largest and most awarded golf travel company, offered travellers a 25% discount on their golf trip if Rory won the US Masters.
Golf travellers clearly liked Rory’s chances. By the time honorary starters Tom Watson, Gary Player and Jack Nicklaus teed off to officially start the 2025 Masters, 103 golfers had booked up $306,000 in golf holidays with Go Golfing.
Rory McIlroy’s dramatic and emotionally charged US Masters victory earned him his first green jacket and USD $4.2 million in prize money. And it ensured a $76,500 windfall for golf travellers who booked with Go Golfing.
It was Rory’s first Major title since 2014, and capturing The Masters completed a career Grand Slam. He becomes just the sixth golfer to achieve golf’s Grand Slam, joining Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods.
The 25% golf holiday discount was a juicy offer, given Rory was the equal favourite to win The Masters.
It was a roller-coaster for golf travellers who took up the offer. Rory was four under in the first round before two double bogeys in the closing holes dropped him back to even par and tied 26th.
McIlroy charged into the lead with back-to-back 66s and held a two-shot lead over Bryson DeChambeau heading into the final round.
When Rory double-bogeyed his opening hole, and DeChambeau birdied the second hole, suddenly momentum and a one-shot lead were with Bryson.
Rory McIlroy’s impressive shot-making saw him birdie holes 3, 4, 9 and 10 and charge back to hold a commanding four-shot lead.
The back nine at Augusta always throws up twists and turns, but the drama that unfolded this year couldn’t be scripted. Rory found Rae’s Creek to double bogey on 13 and followed with a bogey on 14. Suddenly, Justin Rose incredibly had the lead.
Rory’s two-putt birdie from close range on 15 brought him back even with Rose.
Justin Rose fought back from a disastrous third round 75 to shoot a classy 66, and he waited anxiously on the driving range for Rory to finish the 18th.
Having found the greenside bunker, Rory missed a short par save putt to end in a tie at 11 under par and in a playoff with Justin Rose.
The players headed back to the 18th for the sudden-death playoff, and both found the fairway. Rose played first and hit it to 15 feet before Rory rose to the occasion with a mercurial, arrow-like iron over the pin, spinning back to 5 feet. Rory erased the demons from a shorter putt missed just 30 minutes prior and held his nerve to sink the putt. He fell to his knees, exhausted and relieved, before savouring the reality of his first green jacket and being immortalised as a Grand Slam champion.
Riding the emotions of every shot was Go Golfing’s founder, Peter McCarthy.
“Wow, that was a win for the ages. Sunday at The Masters. What drama! Like so many golfers, our team loves The Masters. Waking up early, glued to the TV, is a great tradition for golf lovers in our region. So, we love coming up with promotions to engage the Go Golfing community. This year our loyal travellers were certainly richly rewarded for Rory’s win.”
According to McCarthy, last year’s US Masters promo saw 292 golfers rewarded with a $500 Go Golfing travel gift card for selecting Scottie Scheffler as the champion.
Rory’s 2025 win earned one couple an $8,700 saving on their European golf cruise. Others had 25% chopped off their booking on golf tournaments hosted by Go Golfing at Barnbougle, Mandurah, Noosa, Gold Coast, Fiji, as well as Thailand and Vietnam.
Japan, South Africa, Spain & Portugal, Egypt and South Korea were other tour destinations where golfers won a 25% discount.
“Lots of couples, friends and social groups booked local holidays, and they’ll be pleased when we send a revised statement with a quarter of their balance removed.”
Go Golfing hosts golf tournaments, small group golf tours, golf cruises and bespoke holidays to 34 countries. We take golfers, non-golfers and solo travellers to more destinations than any other golf travel company in the world.
